Can We Prevent Osteoporosis?

Though osteoporosis is generally considered a woman’s disease, it is important to realize that it can also be found among men. In any case, it is a disease known in modern society. Therefore, it has to do with our current lifestyle status.

Unfortunately, this disease has no symptoms. So it is very important to identify its causes in order to better understand the ways to prevent it. Some of the factors that contribute to the development of osteoporosis include heredity, premature menopause, lack of exercise, excess weight and of course smoking, as well as certain specific foods or drinks.

If you have been diagnosed with osteoporosis it is most likely that you will be given a medical treatment. However it would be better if you could also strengthen your system with vitamins essential to the bone structure.

The first and most essential supplement is calcium. It helps to build up and maintain the strength. Therefore, we should consider taking calcium along with some other supplements that will ensure that calcium is indeed able to reach our bones.

Vitamins are also essential to this disease. Therefore we should consume multivitamins, vitamin D and vitamins B and C in order to empower the ability to rebuild our bones. Vitamin D helps to regulate blood levels. Without good vitamin D levels your body cannot absorb calcium. Vitamin C helps manufacture collagen, which is the element that holds the bone matrix together. So you can see why it is important to make sure your body gets enough of this.

Other nutrients are equally important in order to make sure you have healthy bones. These nutrients are magnesium, zinc and boron.

Magnesium helps metabolizing calcium so as to ensure that calcium is efficiently absorbed by your system. Zinc is there to help vitamin D absorb calcium. Zinc is very important because it helps the formation of the two cells essential for bone structure. Boron is in the mineral family. It helps the metabolism of calcium and magnesium. It is essential so that the body will not excrete calcium through urine.

Another great assistance to your bones is the omega 3 fatty acids that can make a big difference in your system. It helps to the calcium absorption and the bone density. It can increase the absorption of calcium from the digestive system and reduce the excretion of calcium in urine. Moreover, it can slow the loss of bone that happens during menopause. By taking only calcium without omega 3 fatty acids it has been shown that you cannot decrease the chances of having osteoporosis in the future. Only by taking both supplements you can really assist your body and truly decrease the chances of ever having to deal with that disease.

Before even considering that you may have osteoporosis, there are a number of tests that can help you better understand what your body truly needs. When you can predict your system’s needs you can even eliminate the possibility of ever having osteoporosis.
